Bt youview vs sky3/17/2023 ![]() ![]() Searching is still especially useful because it draws results from a mixture of sources, both on-demand and from the broadcast schedules. YouView offers that too, of course, but we really like the integration of catch-up services in YouView's EPG. That makes YouView more dynamic than some offerings, where catch-up TV is a separate element where you navigate to that app, then select what you want to watch. If you want to watch something you've missed, you can scroll back to it, select the programme and the catch-up player you need will open to play that specific content. ![]() The YouView EPG that allows you scroll forward and backwards in time, which is one of the great selling points of the service. The actual BT element only really impacts on the experience when you step into the sections that BT adds to the mix. The YouView user interface here is the same as you'll find on the old BT box, as well as on unbranded boxes, or that from rivals TalkTalk. Sadly, at the moment it's just about scheduling recordings. There's potential to make it far more exciting by offering controls over the network, for example, so you wouldn't need to grab the remote, or to offer wider second-screen choices. It's well worth it.Īt the moment that's all the app will do. This is YouView coming of age and with the BT channels thrown into the mix it's the strongest YouView package out there right now. That said, the YouView+ experience from BT is not only sleeker and faster than before, it offers more channels and more catch-up content than before too. ![]() That's something to mull over, as you'll be tied into an initial contract for the provider's overall package just like you would be with Sky, Virgin or any other provider. If you're not a BT customer, however, then the full BT package isn't necessarily going to save you heaps of cash compared to alternatives. If you're an existing BT YouView customer then the T2100 is certainly worth the upgrade (at the £35 offer) because the box and the experience is better all round. ![]() The important thing is to ensure you know what you're getting from the outset and make sure you don't end up paying for TV services you don't need. There's still plenty of confusion around what you might have to pay for, though, as well as the integration of BT TV services with wider YouView staples. It's slick and fast in operation and no slouch when it comes to firing up and delivering those on-demand services. The physical controls on top of the T2100 are welcome should you lose the new-and-improved remote control from time to time, and the box offers ample connections to appeal to new TV owners or those looking to use an old TV lacking a digital tuner. Once you've slipped the T2100 in amongst your other home entertainment paraphernalia you'll barely notice it, as it's far smaller and quieter than the original box. Lastly if you take your time on ebay you'll be able to pick up a box rather cheaply but I have 3 boxes 2 of which are the HD Smart TV Box.The new BT YouView box is a big step forward from the original. The Nowtv app on YouView box to my understanding can only screen Cinema (movies) and Entertainment (Nowtv tv programmes) but I believe you would have to logging online pc/tablet etc and add your Cinema pass and/or Entertainment pass prior to returning to the YouView box to view programmes - Not Sports. However, with the sports you have to watch the programme 'Live' therefore if a football match has a 3pm kick-off for example you will have to logging and watch that game at 3pm on the day.Īlso they now have one box which has the feature of pausing live sports but this is only for upto 30 minutes - For making a cup of tea and grabbing a biscuit I guess! This is the 1080p HD Box Which is the wider and flatter box with 'Blue - NOW TV - on the top I believe the official description is: 'NOW TV HD Smart TV Box' I shall attempt to post a link to Currys which sells for approx £30Īlso available is the newer NOW TV Smart stick for approx £15 but I am not sure if it's at the same level of HD or if it's a 720p device and I don't believe you can pause this product - One gets what one pays for generally in life!Įbay has a wide choice of 2nd hand and brand new boxes for your pleasure. With the Movies channel (Cinema) and the TV Programmes (Entertainment) you are able to watch these at your leisure as programmes are available continuously. I am not sure if you have seen other answers in this forum but I will just post a couple of notes which may help you.įirstly, NowTV programmes whether Cinema - Movies pass, Entertainment - TV pass or Sports pass none of these are available for downloading in other words you have to watch via a device directly using one of their boxes etc. I see there is some confusion in regards to the NowTV offered services. ![]()
